Hideyo Kunieda
Hideyo Kunieda is Vice President in charge of research and student support at Nagoya University, where he is Professor at the Department of Physics, School of Science. He graduated from Nagoya University in 1975, and holds a Ph. D. in physics (1982) from the same university. He joined the faculty of the Department of Physics, Nagoya University, first as a research associate (1979-1993), and then as an associate professor (1993-1999). He became Professor at the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science in Kanagawa, Japan (1999-2005), and then joined Nagoya University as Professor in 2005. In 2009-2012, he was the Dean of the School of Science, Nagoya University. Professor Kunieda serves as a committee member of the International Astronomical Union Division IX from 2005, and was the President of the Astronomical Society of Japan (2010-2011). He is also an associate member of the Science Council of Japan (2011-2017). He has been involved in many X-ray Astronomy missions by developing X-ray telescopes. Major targets are active galactic nuclei which may harbor massive black holes. He has published 126 refereed papers (including 12 Nature papers) and a comparable number of non-refereed papers and proceedings. |
