Rafael Urban
Rafael Urban is a cinema director, producer and curator. He directed and produced works such as “Dinosaur eggs in the living room” (2011) and “To what do I owe the honour of this illustrious visit?” (2013). The former was awarded the Best Film of the International Competition at the 66th Edinburgh International Film Festival (2012) and has been seen in more than 130 festivals of 23 countries. Urban runs Tu i Tam Filmes, an independent producing company whose films have been shown in European and Brazilian TV channels and in festivals such as Rotterdam, Locarno, FIDMarseille, Cinéma du Réel, IndieLisboa, Chicago, Bafici, Brasilia and Videobrasil. His first feature as producer, “The Bull”, directed by Larissa Figueiredo, had its World Premiere at the 44th Rotterdam IFF. He has studied Journalism and History of Modern and Contemporary Art and coordinates the project Ficção Viva II, which runs workshops in Brazil with accomplished filmmakers such as Carlos Reygadas, Lucrecia Martel and Miguel Gomes. Urban has written articles as a journalist for several Brazilian newspapers and magazines such as piauí, Gazeta do Povo and Galileu and edited the magazine Juliette, dedicated to cinema criticism. He has worked as a curator for several festivals, most recently to the International Film Festival of Curitiba Art Biennial. |
