Luiz Gylvan Meira Filho
Gylvan has worked in the area of climate change since the late 1980s. He participated in the negotiation of the UN Framework convention on Climate Change and of its Kyoto Protocol. He presided the negotiating group of Article 3 of the Kyoto Protocol, on the emission targets of Annex I Parties to the Convention, the negotiating group on Article 12 of the Kyoto Protocol, that established the Clean Development Mechanism. He was a member of the Executive Board of the CDM and the first president of its Methodology Panel. Gylvan was appointed Senior Scientific Officer of the UN Secretariat of the Climate Convention. He as a vice-president of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), and co-chair of the Science Working Group of the IPCC. He continues to cooperate with the IPCC in areas within his field of professional interest. He participated in scientific management as the Secretary for Science Policy and Programs of Brazil and as President of the Brazilian Space Agency. He acted as Visiting Professor of IEA/USP from 2004 to 2006, and has been a Visiting Researcher since that year. He is presently also a Senior Researcher at the Vale Institute of Technology, in the area of Climate Change and Sustainable Development. |
