John Heath

John Heath was educated at the Universities of Glasgow and Oxford. After holding Research Fellowships from the Beit Memorial Trust and the Medical Research Council he was lecturer in Biochemistry and Fellow of Oriel College, University of Oxford. He joined the University of Birmingham as Professor of Biochemistry in 1995 and has served the University as Head of the School of Biosciences, Director of Research & Knowledge Transfer in the College of Life and Environmental Sciences and academic member of Council.

John’s research concerns the molecular signalling processes that control the behaviour of cancer cells. He has published over 160 papers and two books and has served on numerous national and international science funding and advisory panels. He is an elected member of the European Molecular Biology Organisation (EMBO).

John Heath is Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Estates and Infrastructure of the University of Birmingham. His portfolio includes oversight of infrastructure, information and sustainability, working with Directors of Estates and IT across the academy to support the development and delivery of the University Strategic Framework. John also has oversight of the University’s hugely successful MOOC portfolio and strategy in partnership with FutureLearn, the UK’s first MOOCs provider established by The Open University.
